Hurricane Gustav

Hurricane Gustav is headed straight towards my hometown of Lake Charles. My family is evacuating today before the traffic gets too bad. They will be staying here with us until they find out when they can go home.

My mom and dad went to Wal-Mart last night to get some plastic storage tubs. They were sold out. The water was sold out. The asprin, tums, and other medicines were sold out. Batteries. The gas pumps were covered because they had run out of gas. Already.

As of this morning, Gustav has strengthened to a Cat. 3 hurricane. It is traveling at 15 mph with winds 125 mph. It’s supposed to strengthen before it hits our coast.

In 2005 we were hit by Hurricane Rita. It did a lot of damage to our town. We had very little damage to our home compared to most. We lost our roof and had water damage. My aunt, though, had to completely gut her house and rebuild. They just moved back in a year and a half ago.

Please keep the Gulf Coast in your prayers and thoughts this weekend/week. Thanks.
